Quilling
04.10.09
When we first saw Yula Brodskaya’s work, we were blown away. Her most charming work is made from paper, and is a traditional art form called quilling. Quilling, or paper filigree involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is wound around a quill to create a basic coil shape. The paper is then glued at the tip and the coil and arranged to form flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns similar to ironwork. Yula puts a new spin on the traditional technique by using modern type faces and unexpected color combinations such as white on white. Courtesy of our own in-house designer Kortney Greer.
